本剧集被评为“21世纪最伟大的剧集”，由Jerry Seinfeld和Larry David共同创意，1989年至1998年在NBC播出，总共180集。《宋飞正传》以纽约为背景，主要人物包括由Jerry Seinfeld本人饰演,出演,演出,表演,出演,担纲,担当的喜剧演员“宋飞”Seinfeld、他的多年老友George（杰森·亚历山大 Jason Alexander 饰）、以及前女友Elaine（茱莉亚·路易斯-德瑞弗斯 Julia Louis-Dreyfus 饰）和对门邻居Kramer（迈克尔·理查兹 Michael Richards 饰）。 《宋飞正传》与其它情景喜剧最大的区别在于它是"A show about NOTHING"，没有主题，没有主线。每集故事自成一体，主要情节即是四位主要人物的日常日常,生存,生计,日子、职业,事业,工作岗位,职责、异性关系等等，笑料也在这其中铺设。然而这样一部about nothing的情景喜剧，却在播出之后立即得到了评论界和观众的一致好评与喜爱，收视率连年居高。2002年美国权威电视杂志《TV GUIDE》组织的"50 Greatest Shows of All Time"评选中，本剧排在第一位，而George和Kramer则名列"TV's Greatest Characters"。
