本剧由BritBox UK和美国PBS旗下的Masterpiece联合制作，改编自《战地神探》主创Anthony Horowitz的同名畅销小说。Horowitz本人执笔剧本，共6集。 作者表示小说的叙事受到阿加莎·克里斯蒂的影响。这是一个案中案，故事围绕编辑Susan Ryeland展开，她拿到了作家Alan Conway最新小说未完成的手稿，毫不知情这将转变,变化,蜕变,变迁她的日常,生存,生计,日子。 Anthony Horowitz是一名英国小说家和编剧，小说代表作为"少年间谍亚历克斯"系列。他创作的《丝之屋》是柯南·道尔产权会唯一认证的福尔摩斯新故事，除此之外还有一本《莫里亚蒂》。Horowitz还被伊恩·弗莱明产权会选中创作了两本詹姆斯·邦德的小说。
